Retail and FMCG Sales Negotiation Template

Built for field reps and key account managers who negotiate with store buyers and distributors. The AI buyers care about margin, rotation and shelf space, not your brand story. Reps practice the listing pitch and the trade terms before the real category review.

Training goals included

Each goal becomes a scored objective. Completed sessions are rated against it, so a manager sees which goal a trainee still misses.

  • Secure product shelf placement
  • Negotiate optimal commercial terms
  • Increase shelf space share
  • Sell promotional campaigns

Scenario briefs

Four starting situations. Each one is a role play script template: the setting, what the AI persona wants and what the trainee has to achieve.

New product listing

A category buyer at a supermarket chain has no free shelf space and a competitor launch next month. The rep has to win a trial listing with a rotation argument, not a price cut.

Trade terms renewal

The annual negotiation. The buyer opens with a request for a bigger rebate and longer payment terms. The rep has to trade concessions against volume commitments.

Store visit with a reluctant manager

A store manager has moved your product to the bottom shelf. The rep has to get it back to eye level with sell-out data and a promotion plan.

Distributor margin dispute

A regional distributor says your margin no longer covers their logistics cost. The rep has to keep the distribution without giving up the whole margin.

Who you practice with

Category buyer

Chain headquarters

Thinks in margin per linear metre. Asks for sell-out data and knows your competitor's offer.

Store manager

Point of sale

Short on time and staff. Wants fewer deliveries and promotions that do not create stock problems.

Distributor owner

Wholesale partner

Loyal but under cost pressure. Wants a guaranteed margin and marketing support in the field.

How to use this template

  1. Describe your brand and category

The setup asks for your products, your competitors on the shelf and the objections buyers raise. Upload your trade terms if you want the personas to use them.

  2. Adjust the buyers

Make the chain buyer tougher or add a local retailer. Each persona has a mood and a limit you can change.

  3. Run the practice before the category review

Reps rehearse the listing pitch by voice and get a score on each of the four goals. Managers see the transcript and the missed arguments.

Questions about this template

Does the template know retail terms like rebates and listing fees?
Yes. The buyers negotiate on margin, rebates, payment terms and promotional support. Upload your own conditions so they quote your real numbers.
Can I train store visits and headquarters negotiations with the same template?
Yes. The store manager and the category buyer are two separate personas, and the scenarios cover both the point of sale and the annual negotiation.
In which languages can field reps practice?
Training runs in 58 languages. A rep in Lisbon and a rep in Athens practice the same scenario, each in their own language.
